Yesterday a few people noticed that the Windows Clubhouse was down, I had hoped that Microsoft were updating the site but this is looking less and less likely. Today it appears parts of the site are working but its a long way from functional. Trying to access any page on the site returns the below image; specifically this is meant to be the home page.

I don’t believe this is as bad as it could be as I can still access articles that had been posted on the Clubhouse. I hope Microsoft let us know what is happening and can fix it soon.

You can be sure that as soon as I hear anything I will post it on here.

Update (17:40 17/01/2010): The Clubhouse is now accessible for me, I am no longer testing from the same PC or location so it might mean that people who can’t access the Clubhouse need to clear their browser’s cache etc.

It’s a little annoying there has been no word, well not that I have seen, from Microsoft about the issues many of us have been having.

I have just read this post by Paul Thurott who says that all Zunes, other than the Zune HD, have been discontinued and that if you want to buy any of the older models you will need to do so soon. I have to say that I am slightly surprised as it means Microsoft could miss out a large part of the market where people just want to play music on a device and don’t need it to go on the internet or run application. There is also the price factor of the device as the alterative Zunes would have been cheaper when on sale along side the HD.

However I can see why Microsoft would remove the other Zunes from the market as it means there is one single type of device for developers to write applications for and not have to worry about the screen type (touch or not), the kind of interaction the user would have with the device. It might also be that design costs would have been prohibitive for the lower models to be as powerful as the HD and so wouldn’t have been able to run the same software and so splintering the whole Zune experience for users.

I would hope that with only a single device on the market Microsoft and its teams will be able to get more strongly behind it than they have been before to give a real presence on the market and really push the device as a competitor to the iPod.

Reminder: Sign up here to get Microsoft to bring the Zune HD to the UK and the rest of the world

It seems strange to think that only a few months ago I was a nobody on the blogosphere and now I am a nobody with an award. I only set my blog up to talk about Microsoft and its products a few months ago and even more recently figured out how to get my blog articles to appear on the Windows Clubhouse and and now I have won an award for the best story on the site.

I would again like thank everyone on the Clubhouse, especially Marcus, for voting for me. I would like to congratulate all of the other winners of the Clubhouse Choice Awards.

I look forward to hearing more about what Microsoft is planning to do and using their new pieces of software and hardware and I shall endeavour to blog about it all and even give my predictions on what might be coming from them.
