So as I said last night Winrumors had info about a new version of Bing for Windows 8 tablets and today Tom Warren, of Winrumors, has shared a link to the new Bing. The address is Bing.com/bingwin.
As you can see the homepage image is not quite working working properly. Also the information boxes are the bottom aren’t working, all but the Traffic box say “coming soon” when they are clicked. The information boxes at the bottom are: Weather, News, Top Movies, Traffic, Trends, Finance, Events, Travel and Recipes. I have also noticed that it will be possible to scroll through the homepage images, I can currently see 5 different images are meant to be loaded but they aren’t showing up yet.
I tried to do a normal search on Bing but couldn’t find out where the text box was. I then went to Bing.com and did a search there and was presented with this below screen. It would appear that I am now stuck with the new Bing UI, well until I clear my cookies anyway. Again the results page isn’t working correctly as I can’t imagine the results are actually meant to be in Times New Roman.
Some people have said that “related searches” and “search history” are not available in this new UI but if one clicks the “Web” text at the top of the search results then a sidebar appears on the right with these two extra lists. I wonder if in the final version of this UI there will be more than just “Web” available for people to click. It would make sense for things like images, local and maps to appear there too.
I’m not sure why the search button is a circle, it most definitely should be a square seeing how there appears to be a Metro influence in this new UI. The very Metro back button in the top left does not currently work. It’s expected that this new UI will be properly working next week in time for the BUILD conference.
Have you noticed anything else new with this Bing UI?
