Manan has some great images today of how the Zune software looks when connected to a Windows Phone 7 device and some of the functions that can be performed on the device from the software. This software is internal Microsoft code so although it all looks feature complete there may well be changed before this is released.
In the first image we can see the Aero Preview of the Zune Software with the new phone tab open, not all that exciting.
Below we see the new phone tab within the Zune Software which shows an image of the phone, name, sync relationship, last time the phone was synced with the PC and how much free space the phone has. The options available for the phone are “start sync” and “change reset relationship”.
There appear to be arrows beside the phone making me think its possible to have more than one phone connected to the same PC and rotate through them, which is a nice feature although I’m not sure how many people will need more than one Windows Phone 7 device.
The image below shows the screen presented when checking for new updates to Windows Phone 7 devices, it would appear that updates don’t have to be installed immediately but when the users wants to as the text reads:
If an update is need you’ll have the option to get it now or do it later. Please wait until the check is done.
Manan has also reported some other information about the integration between the Zune Software and the Windows Phone 7 devices such as a new section in the program settings named “phone” and that when starting the sync wizard the user is required to enter their Windows Live credentials into the software.
For those familiar to how the Zune Software handles connecting with Zune devices there is nothing surprising but one thing to note is that the Windows Phone section looks to be coloured blue whilst the Zune will be pink/purple. This should work well to differentiate the two different devices from each other very easily. It also sounds like Microsoft are extremely keen to make sure all users of their phone OS use Windows Live too, I am sure most people will already have a Windows Live account though so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
