BusinessWeek are reporting that the Zune Pass, the music subscription offering from Microsoft’s Zune entertainment platform, will be getting a price cut. This comes about because Terry Farrell, senior product manager, hinted that Microsoft are considering changing the price for the Zune, stating that, when talking about the music distribution industry “It’s definitely a challenging business”.
It’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft do to reduce the price of the Zune Pass, I already thought it cheap way of playing music and can’t wait for it to come to the UK. Currently I’d expect the Zune Pass to be priced anywhere between £10 and £15 but if there is a price cut for it in the US then I’d expect it to be cheaper in the UK too, less than £10 is a steal for unlimited music. I am also thinking that if this price cut does exist it will land around the time that Zune Pass goes international which might also see the rumoured Zune HD 2 hitting stores and possibly Windows Phone 7 release.
Microsoft still face a monumental fight against Apple in digital music distribution but this certainly sounds like it could entice more people over to Zune, especially with the Zune being incorporated in the KIN devices and its focus on the teenage market.
