The World Wide Telescope integration with Bing maps was first demoed back in February at TED and today has been released as a Map App for everyone, anywhere to try out.
After playing around with it for a few minutes I have found to work exactly as I would expect it too and with plenty of information with each extraterrestrial object. One nice feature I did notice was when zooming in close to an object it will slowly move, just like it does in reality, however to stop the object moving you would only need to stop the time from be live using the controls in the bottom left.
Its a great addition to Bing Maps although I am not sure I can’t see much usage from me, however this would have been great whilst I was at school. During the same TED demo real-time video augmented reality was shown and I wonder how soon it will be before we see the feature on Bing, my guess is still quite a few months away.
My main request for Bing Maps continues to be bringing better imagery to the world and adding StreetSide to a larger number of cities, lets hope that’s the next announcement I have to share with you all about Bing Maps.
