Softpedia are reporting that the new MSN portal will be released soon, quoting Marci Hanan, director, MSN Marketing as saying “We’re getting ready to launch the new homepage to all of our customers in the coming weeks and we’re working hard to help our customers learn more about the new homepage”.
If you are unaware of the new MSN interface it will be bringing a much tidier interface with some new features like access to Facebook, Twitter and Hotmail all from the home page. You can preview the site here.
You can check out some new videos advertising the MSN interface which follow a very similar format to the Windows 7 ads and the new IE8 ads in the UK, with a distracted interviewee and a short meant-to-be-humerous clip at the end. However the MSN ads seem to me to be extremely cringe-worthy and I’m don’t think they do a good job of really conveying what is new with the interface because the person is interrupted so many times. Microsoft are also providing a way to tour what’s new with the interface, in a very Apple Coverflow like approach.
Another area of the site is comments from reviewers and customers, a trend which Microsoft are increasingly using most recently seen on the Windows Phone 7 Series page. You can watch the three videos and find out what’s new with MSN on this Silverlight page.
It was been announced by Microsoft that the new MSN interface will be for the US only however Softpedia asked them recently if the new interface will roll out to more countries and Microsoft have yet to answer; could the delay in release of the new interface be because its going to be rolled out around the world? I hope so.
I am not a user of MSN mainly because of its hugely over-cluttered interface and the fact I have the BBC for all the news I want but perhaps this new interface and set of features will tempt me to use MSN more often…well that’s if it comes to the UK and not just the US.
