Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Has Been Released
After writing yesterday my Mobile World Congress: What Is Expected I will now have to change that as Microsoft have officiallyreleased but not announced the latest update to Windows Mobile 6.X, 6.5.3. The benefits that Windows Mobile 6.5.3 will bring include support for capacitive touch screens, a more finger friendly UI across the whole OS from check boxes to the new interface at the bottom of the screen.
Customers will be able to buy 6.5.3 on the new Sony Ericsson phone, the Apsen, Neowin have the specs. I would guess there will be official updated for current owners of 6.5 phones to bring their device up to the latest version, but who knows how long that will take.
I have talked about 6.5.3 before and how I think the UI changes are good if a little ugly at times with the likes of the grey buttons in the taskbar at the bottom. However in this screenshot of the new phone and OS it appears to me like Sony have done something I was hoping the default bar would look like and that is to make it similar to the Windows 7 taskbar, the two bars do seem to be very similar.
Its certainly looks more attractive and for users of the latest Windows version it will be a very natural interface to use on a mobile device and could appeal to more people.
As Long Zheng pointed out there will be so much information from Mobile World Congress that Microsoft have to have two Windows Mobile related events shortly after MWC because they have so much to talk about. With Windows Mobile 6.5.3 now out in the open there is one less thing for Microsoft to show off, Windows Mobile 7 must have a hoard of new designs, interfaces and features for it to warrant all the hype Microsoft is drumming up about it.
