All Roads Point To The “Zune Phone”
More hints at Microsoft branded phones have been uncovered in the most recent update to the Zune software. This time Zune Boards found pointers referencing “PmxPure” and “PmxTurtle” which could well be the longer rumoured devices from “Project Pink”. Pmx stands for Premium Mobile eXperience and both Pure and Turtle are the names given to leaked images of what the Microsoft branded devices would look like.
Zune Boards also found text mentioning a new service, Studio, that will allow users to “view and manage their pictures and videos taken with [their] phone at the Studio.” Currently the link following the text redirects to zune.net which is very interesting.
It might be due to Microsoft’s continued denial of a “Zune Phone” or something else but I am beginning to move away from the idea of the device being a true “Zune Phone” but more of a device that uses the Zune PC Software to sync and the Zune Service to share content but the only real reference to Zune on the device will just be a Zune media app. What we do know though is that it looks very likely we will see one or two Microsoft branded mobile devices soon, they wouldn’t have included the code otherwise, most like at Mobile World Congress next month.
I might have to revise my prediction of a Windows Live Video service now that it appears there will be a similar service provided by Zune, might explain why there has been no mention of the service in the screenshots of the upcoming release. I guess it does make sense to have videos stored on the Zune service but pictures I am not so sure, I thought Microsoft were finally consolidating their online storage locations but this sounds like they are about to create more *sigh*.
