It would appear the Zune team missed something out when they removed Smart DJ from non US locales. As you can see on the right click menu its not possible to create a Smart DJ about a specific artist and neither is it possible to access they special playlists through Quickview.

However it is possible to access the Smart DJ feature through the Zune Jumplist from the Windows 7 Taskbar, although its only possible to access previously made Smart DJ playlists.

After discovering this I decide to click one of the Smart DJ items and was presented with the following screen.

Upon clicking the OK button the window disappears and nothing else happens, it had my hopes up for a short time. This has only increased my belief that Zune have now disabled everything that connects to the Zune service from the PC software with “…and then requests data from the Zune service”, possible for a international release of the software.

Why? Is this some copyright thing. I love my Zune and the software that goes with it, but microsoft are making it very difficult for me. No UK periferals, no access to the Zune marketplace and no local support! I mean don’t they want my money ?!

Well other than the Xbox Video service Zune isn’t officially available in the UK, I don’t know why as they would do well in both music distribution and hardware sales from I understand. I do expect a version of Zune for Windows Mobile soon.

Thanks. I am aware of this workaround although I don’t believe users should have to jump through hopes to get access to some features.

I am in the Canadian Air Force, and while i was away on Temporary Deployment, I became quite accustomed to the Smart DJ. I loved that feature. When I got back, my zune updated, and now there is no Smart DJ. BRING IT BACK TO ME!!!! I may be forced to go elsewhere and find something else that has this feature. Other than that, it seems to be all I used the Zune program for. My 4 Gig zune needs to be replaced as it couldn’t handle travelling at altitude, and burst open…it still works though.

Vaughan-Nichols about Win8 DOA would have been welcomed with open arms" lol you got good 5 points. I kinda hope some desktop users stop believing old start menu was better and win8 is bad because it replaced it with new Start Screen. I really feel new start screen is more useful, and prettier, also we still have desktop, taskbar, pinned apps, desktop icons, so its not like all i have to use only its metro UI. also Microsoft has fixed alot of mouse/keyboard interaction in new start menu. I know people is different and not everyone is going to like Metro UI or live tiles, but I have used MS from win 3.1 to win8 dev preview, so I know the changes, and if in 5 minutes i felt comfortable with Metro UI, anyone can do it but only if they want/like it. but anyway, none knows the future, all I know its it wont be DOA and I personally hope win8 will sell good, since even videogames run faster in this dev preview, and also it would help to have alot of metro style apps if I get a win8 tablet. "
