Windows Mobile 6.5.3 To Be Called…6.5! Eh? What? Confusion Ensues
In a tweet from @Longzheng it would appear that in the new SDK emulator for Windows Mobile 6.5.3 the OS is called 6.5.
If this is correct then it is likely to lead to a lot of confusion about what version of Windows Mobile people really have on their phones. I know 6.5.3 is really what Microsoft wanted to ship in October 2009 but using the same name just wont make that have happened. The only way in which this makes sense is if Microsoft is making all handset makers who currently offer 6.5 version 1 replace it with the newer, more finger friendly version of the OS. I would also assume there will shortly be an update for most 6.5 phones.
There is lots of information coding for the latest version of Windows Mobile and about the new SDK emulator on the site mentioned on the above tweet. The image below shows the SDK emulator running 6.5.3 but with the name still 6.5 Professional.
EDIT: I have been reliably informed by @ freyberry that Windows Mobile 6.5.3 has always been planned to be called 6.5 as it is an AKU of 6.5. Microsoft could still choose to call it something different in the market but the software version will remain 6.5.3.
