Windows Mobile 6.5.3 (6.6) already RTMed
PocketNow is reporting that they have been informed by reliable sources that the latest version of Windows Mobile, named 6.5.3 or 6.6, was Released To Manufacturing back in December. This means the newest version of Windows Mobile was given no announcement by Microsoft and could explain why some phones appeared to be running the newest mobile OS at CES.
It seems strange that there was no announcement from Microsoft about this but seeing as they plan to offer over the air updates/upgrades for their next version of Windows Mobile they wont need to announce every iteration of the OS they release. This does make you wonder though how far along Windows Mobile 7 is as people have been expecting Microsoft to announce a release, most like a RTM release, of Windows Mobile 6.6 at MWC and a preview of Windows Mobile 7. Maybe now though Microsoft will actually do more than demo Windows Mobile 7 and perhaps they will make some kind of announcement and timeframe for their new mobile OS.
