Windows Live On The Big Screen
According to this post on LiveSide it sounds like Microsoft want to take Windows Live to the TV, its an interesting idea which raises a few questions with me.
Xbox?
Surely it would be easier for Microsoft to put Windows Live on the Xbox to get content on TVs. Its certainly something Microsoft should have already done, however seeing as Zune is now on Xbox maybe we can expect Microsoft to take aspects of Windows Live (other than Messenger) to the Xbox with Wave 4; maybe as part of the new Devices service.
I know a lot of people don’t have Xboxes so going straight to TV manufactures is a good way of bringing Windows Live to a large audience but I just fell like the Xbox should receive Windows Live before anything else, could increase sales too.
Home Media Centers?
Following a similar justification as the Xboxes I would have thought it better for Microsoft if they could push small PCs to be used in the living room for a better experience through a TV. It would certainly be a cheaper alternative than buying a brand new giant TV for the consumer and probably make more money for Microsoft.
What services?
Not all Windows Live services are suited to being on a TV and I think the best one would be Photos. I have read people wanting Messenger on TVs seeing as Skype is now offering a similar experience, however I don’t see myself wanting to IM via the TV whilst watching it. It would take up valuable screen space and that is what my netbook/HD2 is for.If, as I hope, Windows Live is to add a new service, Videos, then that would also make for a good TV experience.
Other Microsoft Services?
If Windows Live is going to featured on some TVs I wouldn’t be surprised to see some other Microsoft services such as Bing, its Videos section would be very good on TV.
