Windows Live Wave 4: Sooner than we think?
I have been expecting Windows Live Wave 4 to beta around about the time that Windows 7 goes on sale on October 22nd and then be finally released in the new year, however a few things have made me rather more hopeful about its release date.
One factor is that Live Sino/Liveside have got images of some of the new services being tested from August, that could be alpha testing or closed beta testing. Wave 3 services were closed beta tested last year so its likely the Windows Live team will repeat this and could already be doing so. If testing is already being carried out then they would be looking at releasing the final version of the services over the next few months, just in time for Windows 7.
Another factor that has got me thinking is from the first video in this post from Long Zheng that advertises Windows Live Movie Maker running on Windows 7 as part of a proposed advertising campaign for the new operating system. My guess is that the whole suite will also be being advertised with the launch of Windows 7. Microsoft, surely, won’t be advertising year old software that they will very shortly be upgrading so it makes sense that the next wave of Windows Live will be hitting about the same time as Windows 7.
Perhaps the most obvious reason why Microsoft would want to have Windows Live Wave 4 released in time for Windows 7 is because it accompanies the operating so well and really does remove life’s walls. I think it would be silly for them not to have a brand new operating system and a brand new suite of applications launching at the same time, to make the operating system even more functional.
Maybe its just wishful thinking on my behalf but then I do like to see the glass as half full.
