On September 2nd Bing posted an update on Facebook saying:
We’re happy to announce the Bing & Ping Beta program for our Facebook fans. We’re testing features that will let you share answers from Bing like movie times, news, and restaurant locations on Facebook and we want to know what you think…. Stay tuned for an update on how to sign up for the Beta.
To me this sounds like a 21st Century version of word of mouth, a very good idea, if it can be pulled off. I know I would prefer to have recommendations and information for local business and services from people who actually know about them and not from a quickly out of date database. Another advantage would be that the information provided will be coming from a person and not a business who are only concerned about their interests and so may not update some info etc etc.
I will update this page when Bing release more information about this interesting beta.
Update: Well only a few minutes after I posted this post so I was made aware that Bing have got some more information about Bing and Ping on their community website, there are some pictures of how it will work too, they are really bringing social media and networking to search. Check it out.
Update 2: Bing have now provided a link for Facebook fans to sign up to participate in the beta program, you only need to enter in your Live ID and then you will notified when you start using the new feature. http://bit.ly/f6kRh.
Using the Live ID is an easy way for users to be able access different versions and features of Bing, should mean it will be easy for people to test other beta features in the future, if Bing release any more.
